Striglina tibiaria Walker, 1859a;  Plate 9;  RTS #394

Taxonomy

This is the same specimen as figured in RTS; W. Malaysia. The badly damaged male holotype of Daristane tibiaria Walker, 1859:194 from Singapore is in the NHM (Mi7290), genitalia slide #14224. It remained unrecognised in the Geometridae until Whalley (1974b:173) applied to the ICZN for the genus Daristane (Walker, 1859) to be suppressed in favour of Striglina. It is available as a subgeneric name (Nye 1974). Only the male holotype was known to Whalley (1976:53). All other specimens seen are more recent.

Description

27mm. A small to medium sized grey brown species speckled with black, largely devoid of distinctive markings apart from a strongly angled median band on the FW. The brown thyridid reticulation is more obvious on the Un. There is a degree of sexual dimorphism in this species, the males having a grey/purple sheen on both Up & Un. In the females the Un of the wings is yellow brown darkening towards the termen (RTS:126).
