Taxonomy

Vietnam, Phan Rang Nha Ho. India (N. Karnataka, Karwar). The holotype of Sonagara strigosa Moore, 1882b:180 from India (Calcutta) is in the MfNB. Comb. n. to Striglina (Pagenstecher, 1892:45). (Whalley 1976:43).

Description

22-28mm. An orange-brown species with the thyridid reticulation in slightly darker brown. Largely devoid of distinctive markings but there is an indication of antemedian and postmedian lines across the FW and an indistinct antemedian line on the HW. Un FW with patches of black scales between the veins. A sexually dimorphic species with the males being duller and more speckled than the larger females. These are a more uniform bright reddish brown but there is considerable intra-sexual variation.

Distribution & Habitat

Sri Lanka, S. India, Karnataka, W. Bengal, Andaman Is., Nicobar Is. Lowland.

Life History & Pest Status

A leaf roller on Cinnamomum camphora, (Lauraceae) camphor laurel, Trema tomentosa, (Cannabaceae) peach leaf poison bush and Diospyros candolleana (Ebenaceae).
