Taxonomy
The holotype of Botyodes principalis Leech 1889: 69, pl. 3, fig. 9., is from Japan.
Syn. Botyodes maculalis Swinhoe 1894: 198. TL [Meghalaya] Cherra Punji. -
Description
Wing Length: 21mm - 23mm. A yellow and brown sp., very similar to Botyodes borneensis Munroe 1960a but larger with much more pronounced darker transverse markings and a wider darker submarginal band on the FW. The discocellular mark is marginally smaller in this sp. The males have prominent dark anal hair pencils. See also the very similar Botys diniasalis Walker 1859, which has narrower linear markings and a larger discocellular mark.

India (Assam), Nepal, Vietnam, Sabah, China (Canton, Hong Kong, Fujian), Taiwan, Japan. Lowland & lower montane forest; <1400m.
