  • Taxonomy

The holotype of Lasiacme mimica Warren,1896: 177, from India, Khasia Hills [Meghalaya] is in the NHM. It is considered syn. with C. poeyalis (Boisduval 1933: 118) in the LepIndex but Shaffer notes on the same LepIndex card 'A good sp.' Here we treat it as such

syn. [Marasmia?] eupara Nye (MS name?) TL Sumatra & Irian Jaya (Bradley 1981).

syn. [Marasmia?] tiona Nye (MS name?) TL PNG (Bradley 1981).

syn [Marasmia?] obnata Nye (MS name?) TL St. Helena (Bradley 1981).

    Comb. n. to Cnaphalocrocis.

  • Description

Wing length: 7mm. A golden yellow and brown sp. with typical Cnaphalocrocis transverse submedian and postmedian lines. Note the specialised tuft of scent scales in the FW cell. The FW costa has a series of dark brown marks like Cnaphalocrocis poeyalis and C. trebiusalis Compared with C. poeyalis this sp. has much wider dark marginal bands on FW & HW. In the males of Cnaphalocrocis poeyalis the large dark patch of scent scales obscures much of the FW subcosta.

  • Distribution & Habitat

St Helena, India (Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya), Thailand, Sabah, Brunei, Indonesia (Sumatra, Irian Jaya), PNG, Philippines. Primary & secondary forest, cultivated areas and oil palm plantations; <800m.

  • Life History & Pest Status

The larvae of most Cnaphalocrocis spp. feed on grasses (Graminaceae) and some are serious crop pests. This is a minor pest of graminaceous plants and a minor leaf roller pest of Oryza sativa (rice).
