  • Taxonomy


    The holotype of Nymphicula kinabaluensis Mey 2009: 106, fig 30, is from, Sabah, Mt. Kinabalu N.P. H.Q., Liwagu River. It is in the MfNH Berlin. It does not belong to the N. atriterminalis group, and is better placed in the N. stipalis group which is widely distributed in S.E. Asia.

  • Description


    Wing length: 5mm. A small sp. with an orange brown and white pattern. In the hind-wings N. kinabaluensis has some similarities with N. xanthobathra (Meyrick, 1894a) from S.W. Borneo. The serrate subterminal line and the five eyespots separated by orange or silvery white on the HW margin are said to be diagnostic for this sp. (Mey, 2009) However note that Nymphicula sp. 2 and the larger Nymphicula blandialis share the serrate subterminal line, but have four eyespots. The white post median patch from the costa is different in all three spp..
