Taxonomy

Male paratype: Indonesia, Sumatra, Huta Padang. The holotype of Herdonia thielei Inoue, 1993 from Kalimantan Barat (G. Bawan) is in the NHM (Mi7446) (Inoue 1993: 145, & figs., Inoue 2001:321).

Description

45mm. A species similar to H. deminuta, H. incrassata and H. osacesalis but the patterning is subtly different. The FW apex is more weakly falcate than H. acutapex. FW with typical Herdonia patterning and a large translucent grey mark across the cell. It has a small square red-brown spot above the tornus and coarse greyish brown reticulate fasciation near the tornus. The HW has a pale brown submarginal area bounded by a thin pale brown sub terminal fascia with a central, darker, discontinuous line. The antennal rami are about as long or marginally longer than the width of the shaft, not as described by Inoue (1993). Female unknown.

Distribution & Habitat

N. Sumatra, W. Malaysia, Brunei, Sarawak, Kalimantan Barat, Java. Lowland to upper montane primary forest; <1700m.
