Taxonomy

Sarawak, Mulu, Camp 4. The holotype of Herdonia sundana Inoue, 1993 from W. Malaysia, GTE is in the NHM (Mi7449). (Inoue 1993: 134 & figs. Inoue 2001:301).

Description

44-52mm. A species very similar to H. osacesalis but the male antennal lamellae are more slender, nearly twice the width of the shaft and the HW apex is less pronounced (termen from M1 to CuA2). The face is grey, blackish above and whitish below. FW with very pale brown patches which become a faint coarse reticulate patterning on the postmedian area. The white opalescent HW has a pale brown marginal shading. The females are marginally larger on average. The smallest male examined by Inoue (2001) had only c.37mm wingspan.

Distribution & Habitat

Thailand, N. Sumatra, W. Malaysia, Brunei, Sabah, Sarawak, Java?. Lowland to upper montane; <1790m.

H. striolata is similar in pattern and size but its markings are very much darker.
