Taxonomy

Holotype, Sulawesi, Samplaga, Luwu. The holotype of Herdonia striolata Inoue 2001: 309-310 & figs. is from Sulawesi (Samplaga). It and the paratype from Sulawesi (Dumoga Bone NP; Clarke Camp) are in the NHM (Mi7448), genitalia slide #21141.

Description

Male 46-47mm, The female a giant of 53mm. A species with the wings a little larger and broader than H. apoensis Inoue 1993. There is slight sexual dimorphism with larger females. In the male the antennal lamellae are a little shorter than the width of the shaft, the frons and palpi are fuscous brown mixed with chocolate brown scales, the patagium is blackish brown and the tegulae are light brown. All the preceding parts are much whiter in the female. The apico-costal mark is weaker than in most other Herdonia spp. In the female the subterminal fascia consist of fourfold lines, but the inner lines are incomplete.
