Taxonomy

Holotype, Sumatra, Simalungen, Prapat. The male holotype of Herdonia notabilis Inoue, 2001:305 & figs. from N. Sumatra is in the NHM (Mi7447) genitalia slide #21149. There are no other specimens

Description

51mm. A species with a distinctive FW fasciation with few markings centrally. The wing shape is similar to H. quadrilinea Inoue 2001. The HW has blackish brown fasciae. The subbasal fascia is narrow with a smooth distal margin. The male antennal lamellae are about half the width of the shaft. The face is silvery white centrally, dark grey on the dorsal half, the crown, and at the middle and white at the sides. The wing shape and maculation is somewhat similar to H. celebensis Inoue 1993 (144) but the HW postmedian submarginal fascia are much narrower and consist of double not quadruple lines (Inoue 2001).
