Taxonomy

Female holotype, Sulawesi, Puncak Dingin. The female holotype of Herdonia celebensis Inoue, 1993 from Sulawesi is in the NHM (Mi7449) (Inoue 1993: 149 & figs.). The male is unknown.

Description

56mm. A species with typical Herdonia patterning. The colouration and maculation of the FW & HW are distinctive. The slightly falcate FW is pale with large translucent greyish areas centrally and coarse grey-black strigillate markings distally. HW with a small brown subbasal fascia angled at the ventral margin of the cell. The two narrow double submarginal lines run almost parallel to the gently rounded termen. Face white with many dark grey scales on the dorsal half.

Similar spp.

The shape is almost identical with H. osacesalis but that species has a more ochreous brown coloration and the HW sub termenal band is a distinct brown.
