Epaena candidatalis Swinhoe, 1905; Plate 1; RTS #431; not Borneo
Taxonomy
Imaged specimen is the same as that figured in RTS; Thailand, Chiang Mai. The holotype of Rhodoneura candidatalis Swinhoe, 1905:504 is from Assam (Cachar, Silchar). Ms. comb. n. to Epaena (Shaffer, 1982 LepIndex).
Description
44mm. The Un of the FW of this medium to large species has a gold suffusion near the costa. See RTS. The species is rather variable and it may have single or double pre-apical lines. The body is silver scaled with darker cross bandings when fresh, but becomes brown. As it resembles several possibly unnamed Epaena morphotypes, the re-examination of this species may be appropriate. The females have a marginally greater wingspan than the males but their bodies are much longer.
Distribution & Habitat
Sikkim, Assam, Myanmar, Thailand. Lowland to subalpine, primary and secondary forest; <2450m.
