Taxonomy

India, Khasia hills (TL) The holotype of Brixia comparalis Warren, 1908:329 from India (Khasia Hills) is in the NHM (Mi7348). Ms.transfer to Calindoea (Shaffer,1992 LepIndex).

Description

27-36mm. It is similar to C. atripunctalis but in the triangular pale blotch near the FW apex on the costa in this species there is a single small half-spot whereas in C. atripunctalis are two more distinct dark half-spots and the red-brown coloration on the Up HW is more constricted and clearly defined. (RTS:131). See Calindoea spp. 7 and 11 which may be sspp. of this species and the similar C. atripunctalis triangularis Pagenstecher 1892.

Distribution & Habitat

Taiwan, China, Meghalaya, Myanmar, Thailand, W. Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Sarawak. Lowland forest and disturbed areas; <300m.

Life History & Pest Status

As in many Calindoea species, in the resting posture the adult raises its front, the abdomen rests on the substrate and the FW are drawn forward around the body and head like a tent. See Plate 10, Fig. 58a, a photo of a living moth from North Thailand.
