Peniculimius api Schouten, [1994]; PED 5

  • Taxonomy

The holotype of Peniculimius api Schouten, 1994: 18, figs. 9, 10, 16. is from Sarawak, Gg. Api Pinnacles, is in the NHM.

  • Description

Wing length: 6mm. The typical Peniculimius (Schouten, 1994: 18) patterning is similar to Metaeuchromius (Bleszynski 1960). They have a plain brownish HW and speckled pale brown, slightly falcate, FW. Typically the FW is traversed by an orange submedian fascia and several diagonal orange lines near the apex. Submarginal brown lines are usually present and there are several orange spots alternating with small black eye-spots, distally near the termen.

This sp. is very similar to Peniculimius crassus, P. fructus & P. marginata which only differ slightly in the shape of the fasciae and in the texturing (scale distribution) in the brownish areas. They are all best separated by the genitalia.
